Description: Personal papers of Arnold C. Piersall who came to Stout in 1960 to teach woodworking. During Piersall's career at Stout, he taught courses in plastics, hand woodworking, machine woodworking, cabinet making, and patternmaking; as well as manufacturing materials and processes classes. Dr. Piersall served as department chair of the Wood Technics Department (which was to become the Materials and Processes Department) from 1965 to 1971. Piersall retired in December, 1987. Included in the collection is correspondence; budget planning materials for the Materials and Processes Department; minutes of Materials & Processes Department meetings and SIT Department Chair meetings; occasional publications by Piersall, the department itself or other Stout faculty members; departmental equipment specifications & equipment brochures, and miscellaneous materials. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence and department meeting minutes and supporting materials. The correspondence includes requests for textbooks and information on lab equipment; exchange of ideas with colleagues in the field of industrial arts; Stout administrative and faculty information and procedures regarding finances, student employment and operating procedures; and miscellaneous. The collection contains few course materials and those remaining consist of course outlines and tests for various plastics courses and a lecture note booklet for Woodworking 103. Of special interest are files relating to Piersall's involvement in the INELEC (Algerian) Project in establishing a plastics program at the Institute of Electronics and Electricity in Bourmedes, Algeria; and his work with the NDEA Institute for Advanced Study in Industrial Arts (Plastics) held at Stout.
